BEHOLD! AWKWARD.
---
Dorien wanders around his small apartment, doing the finishing touches to the table settings. Forks when that way, while knives went there, not there. He had spent most of the day cleaning, making sure everything was in tip top shape, while hiding away most of his work. Shopping had been simple enough, getting everything he needed, before heading back to cook.
The redhead looks everything over one more time, before nodding to himself. Everything was ready; all he needed was his guest. He paces, making sure to pass the window that looks out onto the street.
Nallaen stood there at the front door of Dorien’s place for some time. He let out a small sigh as a gloved hand slid up to the door to knock. He paused before doing so, adjusting the ebon fedora that sat on his head. If he left now he could say he got caught up doing something ridiculous and....Nall gave another exasperated sigh. No, he agreed to this and Dorien was just doing something nice for him. After all, Nall *had* retried his unic- steed for him and Dorien was just trying to be appreciative right? Right? He hoped that was the case.
Finally he brought himself to rasp his knuckles on the door. Knocking, once, twice, three times. He stood there, bottle of wine in hand, waiting for Dorien to answer
Dorien had finally stopped pacing to notice that someone was standing downstairs, and the hat looked fairly familiar. He hurries out the door, leaving it unlocked, hoping the other tenants weren't the type to randomly decide to steal. He hopped more than walked down the stairs, clearing the last five steps with a small leap. He stumbles, but rights himself before crashing into the wall opposite, and walks over to the door.
He opens the door with a smile. "Hey Nallaen."
There was a very distinctive thud, almost like a body hitting the wall. Nallaen's eyebrow immediate went up. The hell...? Suddenly the door opened and Nallaen was greeted with a smiling red head, though his own skeptical demeanor did not fade. "Hi Dorien....is uh...everything alright?" Nallaen poked his head in a bit, curious to see just what made that racket.
"Everything's fine, I just stumbled, want to come in?" The redhead steps back, holding the door open for the other man.
"Oh ummm... Sure. Are you okay?" Nallaen takes a step inside, boot heel clicking against the floor as he does. He suddenly seems to realize himself and extends the bottle of wine toward Dorien. "So I know we said I would pick the drink so...I did!" Nall gives a small smile. If there's something that cheers him up, it’s talking about and imbibing liquor.
"Excellent... If we need more, there's always the winery next door." Dorien closes the door, and starts to head up the stairs, taking two at a time. "And I'm fine; I just didn't realize you were standing there for so long." He passes the first landing, with a door there, heading up the second flight of stairs.
Nallaen follows behind, albeit a bit slower. "Oh you uhh...saw me there?" He shades a bit which is a bit unusual for him. "Ahh well. Was just um. Yeah. Anyways. How is dinner coming along?"
"Pretty much finished, I was just letting the vegetables cook a bit longer, unless you like slightly undercooked vegetables." Dorien stops at the second landing, opening the door, walking inside, and holding it open for Nallaen to enter. "Er. This is it."
Nallaen nods his thanks as he catches up and slides past Dorien into his apartment. His hands slide into his pants as he waits for him to enter, content to take a look around his place for a moment. Nall can be a little nosy sometimes. "So uhh...will Cadence be joining us..?"
"No, she's up north at the moment," Dorien says, closing the door and locking it after a moment. He wanders further into the one room apartment, heading towards the corner apparently set aside as the kitchen and eating area.
The room itself is rather sparse, having the bare bones needed for someone to sleep and work. They only form of a hint of personality for the place is the curtains and carpet, and even then, it's bland. There's a small basket on the desk though.
Nallaen breathes a bit easier at this. "Ahh. I see. I hope she's safe up there." He continues to look around this home, eyes even darting to the basket once or twice. He follows Dorien over slowly, removing his hat. "Do you have anywhere I could...?" Nall motions to his hat.
"Anywhere is okay, bed, or desk, whatever." The redhead turns to his small stove, poking at something in a pot with a wooden spoon.
Nallaen sets his had down on the desk and slowly makes his way over to the table, taking in the sights of this house. "I really hope this wasn't too much trouble to go through..."
"Not at all, I have an ulterior motive," Dorien turns back to the table, pulling bowls, which had been placed upside down over top of the plates already set there, away to show a breaded chicken breast. He stacks the bowls, placing them on the counter, before grabbing the pot off of the stove, and putting some various green vegetables beside the meat.
Nall smiles at the sight of the food. He was a bit hungry, true enough and he takes a seat. "Wow...this uh...looks really good. Do you do this for every one or just the people that returns your horse?"
Dorien laughs, putting the pot off to the side before grabbing the wine. "I only give the best to those I wish to impress." He sits down across from Nallaen, and tries his best to get the cork out of the bottle. He isn't... Doing that well.
"Here..." Nall beckons the bottle over as Dorien struggles with it. "They can be tricky sometimes if you don’t use enough of your wrist..."
Dorien huffs, and holds out the bottle to the other man. "I've always had trouble with them, it's kind of embarrassing."
He chuckles lightly, taking the bottle in hand. It's clear that Nallaen knows his way around liquor...or liquor bottles at the very least. With a quick flick of his wrist the bottle is uncorked and he pours out a length of wine for Dorien and then himself. "There we are..."
"My hero, first getting my horse back, and then opening the bottle. How ever will I repay you?" The redhead picks up the mug, and holds it out to Nallaen. "Cheers?"
Nallaen chuckles lightly. "To what do you want to drink?"
"Or friendship, if that isn't too forward. If it is, then good food at least?" Dorien offers a lopsided smile.
Nallaen laughs now. "Friendship is just fine." He lifts his mug and toasts with Dorien, taking a sip of the wine. With a satisfied 'ahh' he lowers it back down. "I love this vintage..." He says with a small smile. "This looks really good Dorien...do you mind...?"
"No, no, go ahead. Tell me how you like it too." Dorien sips the wine, and smiles. "This is good... Hopefully, it goes well with the food."
Nallaen cuts himself a bit of chicken and takes a tentative first bite of it. He chews on it for a few moments before speaking. "Wow... Dorien this is really good.... Do you cook often?"
"I'm the one who cooks in this... Room." Dorien pauses awkwardly, and shrugs. "My mother taught me how to, so I thought it'd be best if I continued with the skill."
"Well you are very good at it Dorien!" He takes another bite. "I'm glad you did because it came out great." Nall goes about happily eating his meal
"There's more, if you'd like it." Dorien smiles brightly. "It's great to know when someone enjoys my cooking." He finally digs into his own meal, pleased that he has met his guest's tastes.
Nallaen finishes his meal after a bit and sets his napkin down. "Wow. That was something else Dorien." He gives a contented sigh. "Been a while since I've had a meal that good."
"I wouldn't mind cooking some more, if you prefer having a meal like that more often."
"I really couldn't impose like that... plus my schedule is so chaotic that I wouldn't know when to ask you to cook anyways."
"Are you sure you don't want more then? In case there's a chance it'll be a while until your next meal?" Dorien drains his mug, making a small appreciative noise. "That is very good wine..."
"Oh no...I'm quite full... thank you though Dorien! It was excellent." Nall pours himself a second glass of wine and takes another sip, hrming silently.
"Do you know a woman named Bellethiel?" Dorien asks after a moment, pouring another glass as well.
Nallaen lofts a brow as he takes another sip. "Bellethiel....the name sounds familiar but... I do not think I know them personally. Why do you ask?"
"She came looking for me the other day, asking after you." Dorien sips from the wine, tapping his fingers idly on the table. "She's that elf that's close to Yarane, she was there... That night. I had threatened her."
Nallaen lofts a brow. "Really now. Did she say what she wanted?" He takes another sip of his wine, his demeanor changing a bit.
"Somewhat. She said she wanted to ask you a question, but wouldn't tell me what it was when I asked, maybe because we were in a public setting and people could overhear." The redhead looks up at Nallaen, a worried look on his face. "She said only you could answer it, which worries me, but, I managed to find out it had nothing to do with recently dead, killing people, or fighting."
Dorien pauses after a moment, before shrugging. "Or so she said."
Nall chuckles darkly, taking another sip of wine. "Isn't that always the case? Can never take a person at their word any more." He pauses for a moment, looking pensive once more. "A question only I could answer. I suppose there are several of those floating around but....none that apply to her I don’t think."
"Maybe Yarane? The whole..." Dorien trails off, shrugging. "I said I'd mention it to you, but I made no promises that you would help."
"Why would she come to be about him? I mean in all honesty, I barely know more than what we dug up on him. Obviously she was in line with him so....unless she has some question about the splitting of his soul. Was she present for that?"
"That happened on the night, didn't it?"
"Yes it did. I just don’t remember if she was present. It was a rather hectic thing wasn't it?"
"Certainly. I passed out at some point. I think she may have been, if I remember correctly." Dorien sips from his mug again.
"What does she look like again?"
"An elf. Pinkish skin, long purple hair that goes down her back. Last I saw her, she was in a pink dress and a stupid mask. I think her markings were this leafy, flowery thing?"
Nallaen laughs. "Leafy, Flowery. That' really narrows down the description there Dorien."
"I could point her out to you in if we were wandering, but otherwise... Not much else to work on."
Nallaen nods. "Well, I'm sure she will come find if its *that* important. I'm not particularly hard to find when I want to be found..."
Dorien nods. "Okay, I just thought I should give you a heads up, so you aren't blindsided by it if she suddenly appears."
Nallaen smiles. "Thank you Dorien. I appreciate the heads up. But one more question if I may. Did she appear armed when she spoke with you? "
"No, although she did seem keen on trying to scare me, or at least throw me off. She was wearing this really stupid mask, something a troll may have made? I don't know. She said it was to intimidate, after I guessed it was her, but if she wanted to do that, she probably shouldn't have worn a pink dress with it." Dorien offers a slight smile.
Nallaen rolls his eyes, though his half laughing. "Oh great. So she's just *unhinged*. That should end nicely."
Dorien shakes his head. "Yeah, it doesn't sound that great... Plus, she's a druid. She could turn into a cat at will, if necessary."
Nallaen frowns. "Great. Just what I need in my life. More claws." He gives another lengthy sigh. "Eh. At least its an interesting one right? Nall cracks a wry grin.
"I suppose so. More claws? Had a bad experience before or something?"
Nallaen laughs. "Oh right. Ummm. Bad night with a call girl once...." He blushes a bit and takes another hit of wine.
"... Ah ha, was she pretty at least?"
"Kinda. Truth be told I was really inebriated at the time..."
Dorien snickers. "I know that feeling."
Nallaen lofts a brow curiously. "Oh do you know now? Anything you care to share?"
"My ex-lover," Dorien supplies, with not much more. He sips from his mug, before pouring himself more wine.
"Oh come on now. You have to reveal a little more than that..."
"I met her while drinking, that's all. And I had to keep drinking. Although, she wasn't that bad looking, to be honest, at least physically. Personality could have used some work."
"And what made you two ex-lovers? Personality?"
"Something like that, she... Turned out to be uglier than expected."
Nallaen laughs. "Been there." He drains the rest of his mug, setting it down lightly. "So tell me something I don’t know about you Dorien."
"What were you hoping for?"
"Something. Anything. Whatever you will tell me."
"I can cook, although you know that now, clean, and sew."
"Nothing else at all?"
"Ah ha, you think you can get more out of me without me finding something out about you?" Dorien smirks, sipping his wine. "That, or you need to fill me with more wine before I'll speak freely."
Nallaen chuckles, pouring him another length. "True enough I suppose. Drink up then, Mydral." He pauses and runs a hand through his hair. "Alright, something about me. Well, Ummm let's see. I like clocks."
"Really? Why?"
Nallaen shrugs. "I dabble in machinery and well they are a fascinating thing to build and take apart."
"Like to find out what makes them... Tick?" Dorien pauses. "Okay, that was a terrible pun."
Nallaen laughs. "That was absolutely fucking terrible, Dorien."
The redhead grins widely. "Ah well, apparently I've drank enough to make those!"
"Alright, something else!"
"Well, what do you want to know? I have a hard time with this sort of thing..." Dorien sips from the wine, a thoughtful look on his face.
"Anything. Everything. Something random. It really doesn’t matter."
Dorien frowns for a moment, before shrugging. "As opposed to popular belief, I have not actually slept with a man."
Nallaen lofts a brow. "And... uh... who seems to think thusly?
"Well, Ley. So I suppose she doesn't actually count, since she'd probably assume that of most men."
Nallaen nods. "Naturally. Ley is well.....Ley..."
Dorien nods. "True enough."
Nallaen takes another long drink of wine before standing suddenly. "Well Dorien... it’s been a pleasure and it was an amazing meal. Thank you so much."
"Eh? Leaving so soon?" Dorien stands up too quickly, knocking his chair over and hitting the table, making some of the cutlery hit the floor.
"Yeah... I eh, have an appointment to keep...." Nall moves to his side, picking up the chair and the cutlery. "You should really be more careful...."
"Y-yeah, so-sorry about that. Uhm. I was going to ask you a favour, actually..." Dorien trails off, doing his best to help without getting in the way.
Nall looks up, placing some of the cutlery back on the table. "Sure...what’s up Dorien...?"
"Well, it, uh, might interfere with your appointment."
Nallaen lofts a brow. "Just ask..."
Dorien leans back against the table, crossing his arms over his chest. "If you want to know something you don't know about me, I get nightmares. They're unpleasant, and I've found the only way to deal with them is... Well, to have someone nearby. At night. When I'm sleeping."
He starts to look at his feet, avoiding Nallaen's face. "Cadence isn't here, at the moment."
"...." Nallaen blanches for a moment. "Dorien... umm. I'm sorry I really can't help with that... I uh am really late." Nallaen goes for his hat and dons it. "Dinner was great, thanks again. Can't wait to share another. Bye!" He's out of there in a heartbeat!
Dorien races after him. "Look, Nall, wait. Stop for a moment!"
Nallaen is halfway down the stairs when he pauses, looking down. "Y-yes...?" He asks, without looking back up."
"I'm sorry. That was awkward. Sorry. I'm just. Uh. Getting a bit desperate. Sorry. Haven't slept well in two months. Sorry. I hope you liked dinner. I'm sorry. Are we okay?"
Nallaen takes a deep breath. "Yes. We are fine, Dorien. " He smiles. "It's alright. I'm just a little...well...yeah..... I really gotta go."
"O-okay. I'm sorry. Have a nice night." Dorien offers Nallaen a weak smile. "Remember, if you ever want anymore good cooking, feel free to ask."
"We're fine...really. I promise..." He looks at Dorien once more before taking his leave, though he does it a lot slower than before.
Dorien watches him go, looking rather... worried, and as though he wants to say something else. He tugs on his hair idly.
"Good night," he says, before turning back up towards his home.

Nallaen laughs. "Been there." He drains the rest of his mug, setting it down lightly. "So tell me something I don’t know about you Dorien."
